On June 16th, 2010, Bryan's mission call arrived in the mail! It came just four days after our family had returned home from Mexico on a vacation. Bryan was at work at the time the postman delivered it, so we held it until he came home and invited family and friends over to be in attendance when he opened it! He began to read it - then paused at the best part (and read it to himself!) and then a big grin fell over his face. We were still waiting anxiously for him to read aloud his call! The suspense was killing us, but we knew he was pleased, just by the look on his face!
Finally he read it out loud for us to hear. It said,
Dear Elder Warner,
You are hereby called to serve as a missionary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. You are assigned to labor in the Mexico Monterrey West Mission. It is anticipated that you will serve for a period of 24 months.
You should report to the Provo Missionary Training Center on Wednesday, November 3, 2010. You will prepare to preach the gospel in the Spanish language....
Ahhh, Mexico!! Spanish!! We were thrilled and surprised to say the least. We had a map on the wall and everyone that came put a sticker where they thought he might be going. A few did, in fact, pick Mexico. We had to look up Monterrey and found it to be in northern Mexico. Amid the chaos and drug activity there, our hearts were full of peace and joy that this was where Bryan was supposed to serve the Lord and the humble people of Mexico! We couldn't be happier!
Bryan reading his call to himself before reading it out loud to us!
Aunt Chris steps in to help because she couldn't stand the suspense any longer...
Love this moment. My mothers heart was full of so much joy. SO proud of this boy.
Afterward, sharing with great family and Bryan's awesome friends.
The preparations begin! Such an exciting time. Congratulations, Elder Warner!
